TRCA welcomes its first Lead Teacher
The Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Mrs. Sherry Fiscella has accepted the position of Lead Teacher for the inaugural year of Two Rivers Classical Academy.
Mrs. Fiscella brings a wealth of experience, training, and character to our academy. As both a Christian school teacher and a home educator, she is uniquely equipped to help us bring together “the best of both worlds.”
Mrs. Fiscella graduated with an honors program diploma and bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Hannibal-LaGrange University in Hannibal, Missouri, which included a semester of British studies at Harlaxton College in Grantham, England. She has Pre-K through Grade 8 Christian school classroom experience in addition to serving as a supervising teacher for homeschoolers. She and her husband Troy homeschool their two children, now both in high school. Mrs. Fiscella was also the founding administrator and lead teacher of Warren County Christian School (now Victory Christian Academy) when it opened in Indianola 20 years ago. In her free time, she loves reading historical fiction and would like to get back to freelance writing again in the future.
Mrs. Fiscella shares, “My favorite things about teaching are helping kids overcome learning obstacles in reading and math and helping older students find enjoyment and success with the writing process. Kids make me smile and bring me joy! I’m especially looking forward to sharing lots of books and songs with TRCA students.”
She adds, “I enjoy shaping school culture and creating an environment where students love to learn, teachers love to teach, and parents love to be involved partners. I’m both an educator and an entrepreneur at heart, so helping to design and lead this start-up program is a great fit for me.”
During the 2019-2020 academic year, Mrs. Fiscella will teach a regular class, provide leadership to the teachers and staff, and assist the Board of Directors with administration and development of TRCA.
A note from Mrs. Fiscella
Dear TRCA Community,
I am delighted to accept the position of lead teacher of Two Rivers Classical Academy. It has been a pleasure to meet many of the TRCA parents and students as I’ve served as a consultant to the academy over the last two months, and I look forward to starting our inaugural school year together in August! Having served as a supervising teacher for many Des Moines area families for the past 18 years, I am excited to be a part of this new option for families who wish to homeschool with the additional instructional and social support of a well-designed learning community. The Christian, classical, collaborative approach is unique, but proven. It is a distinct privilege to be a part of the team that is building an academy of joyful excellence from the ground up. Let’s commit to pray for God to be glorified in this new venture. I’m looking forward to learning with you!
